Mills sizzles Sunday at Fendrich
David Mills, the 2011 champion of the Evansville Courier & Press Men’s City Golf Tournament, gave himself the opportunity to win a second title with a 9-under par 61 Sunday at Fendrich.
The bogey-free round that featured nine birdies gave Mills a two shot lead over top junior Dylan Meyer, who shot a 7-under 63 Sunday playing with Mills and defending champion Logan Osborne.
Osborne double-bogeyed the first hole Sunday and never got it going on his way to a 1-over 71.
That means Mills, the recent Indiana University graduate and former North standout, leads the tournament at 130 after carding a 2-under par 69 Saturday at Helfrich.
“I’m very happy with that number,” said Mills. “It’s the best competitive round, number-wise, I’ve ever shot.
Meyer, who will attend Illinois in the fall, is alone in second place at 132 after he also shot 69 Saturday at Helfrich.
“I’m happy with the round,” said Meyer. “I wanted to play bogey-free, which I did, and hopefully put a little pressure on David, but he played very well.”
