Wagner a late bloomer with golf game

When Jon Wagner was the same age as most of his Evansville Courier & Press City Golf Tournament competitors, he couldn’t break 100.

Wagner wrestled and played baseball for Castle High School but didn’t pick up golf until his 20s.

A greybeard compared to most other City contenders, the 33-year-old Wagner is tied for fourth place at 2-under 139 midway through the tournament. The four-round event continues Saturday at Rolling Hills Country Club and concludes Sunday at Evansville Country Club.
